Glenn Kirk
Oral Surgeon
BDS MDS PGDipClinDent (Oral Surgery)
Glenn Kirk has been caring for patients needing specialist oral surgery in the Manawatū for over 20 years. He’s ACC registered, Southern Cross affiliated, and also works with MidCentral Health and the New Zealand Defence Force.
He trained at the University of Otago, graduating with Distinction, and is especially skilled in dental implants, wisdom tooth removal, and has a reputation for his soft hands. His goal is simple: to make sure every patient feels informed, relaxed, and cared for from start to finish.
Glenn also loves teaching, supporting postgraduate students, and sharing tips with other dentists. Off the clock, you’ll find him chasing medals and cups on his bike, catering to the whims of his three daughters, or being outsmarted by his Maine Coon cats.
Andrew Birnie
Specialist Oral Surgeon
BDS (UK) MFDS (RCSEd) MOralSurg (Tricollegiate)
Originally from Northern Ireland, Andrew qualified from Dundee University (UK) in 2000 and has spent the vast majority of his career in oral surgery. He worked for 18 years in the UK hospital service, including five years as a Consultant Oral Surgeon at Royal Cornwall Hospital, before moving into specialist practice in Northern Ireland.
Andrew has extensive experience across the full range of oral surgery and implantology. He managed the hospital implant clinic for oncology and facial trauma patients, led the intravenous sedation service, and has a special interest in the surgical exposure or removal of impacted teeth, often working closely with Orthodontists. He understands that many people feel anxious about surgery and, as a father of both daughters and sons, has a knack for helping anxious children feel calm and safe.
Outside work, Andrew enjoys spending time outdoors with his family, often at the beach, and is excited to explore the beautiful landscapes of New Zealand.
Meet Susie
Surgical Dentist
Dr Susan (Susie) Ramirez is a surgical dentist who has dedicated her career to the fine art of removing things people would rather not have in their mouths. After years of study, countless cups of coffee, and an impressive collection of extracted wisdom teeth, she now specialises in turning dental drama into a distant memory.
Trained in both precision and patience, Susie combines her surgical expertise with a reassuring chairside manner. She understands that oral surgery is rarely anyone's idea of a fun afternoon, so she prides herself on creating a calm, compassionate environment, with just enough gentle humour to help patients unclench their jaws.
Outside of Broadway Specialists she enjoys strong coffee, good conversation and not talking about teeth at dinner parties. She can also be found line dancing or tending to a carefully curated collection of cacti - proving that patience, resilience and the ability to handle sharp things extend well beyond the operating theatre.
Barry Geldenhuys
Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon
Barry Geldenhuys is a highly qualified Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon with extensive experience across dental, medical, and surgical disciplines. He completed his Bachelor of Dental Surgery in 2001 at the University of Stellenbosch, South Africa, and earned his Medical Degree from the University of Pretoria in 2007. He then undertook specialist training in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg.
In 2018, Barry and his family relocated to Wellington, New Zealand, and he joined the Broadway Specialist Team in 2020. He provides comprehensive surgical care for a wide range of oral and maxillofacial conditions and also serves as a Consultant at the Hutt Valley District Health Board, managing regional facial trauma and mentoring house surgeons.
Barry has particular interests in dental implantology, oral and orthognathic surgery, and the surgical management of temporomandibular joint disorders. Outside work, he enjoys spending time on the water with his family—jetskiing, exploring the ocean, and relaxing over a traditional braai.
Steven McKinstry
Specialist Oral Surgeon
Steven McKinstry is a Specialist Oral Surgeon who puts patients first, focusing on clear communication and a calm, patient-centred experience. He performs procedures under IV sedation when needed, including tricky tooth extractions, wisdom teeth removal, dental implants, bone grafting, canine exposures for orthodontics, and oral pathology and biopsy. He’s a member of the NZ Dental Association, NZ Society of Oral Surgeons, and NZ Society for Sedation in Dentistry, and is affiliated with Southern Cross, ACC, and most other insurers.
Steven is also committed to learning, regularly taking part in continuing education and peer case discussions. While he offers the full range of oral surgery procedures, he’ll happily refer to colleagues if that’s in a patient’s best interest.
Outside work, Steven is husband to an amazing cake maker and busy parenting three young daughters. When he gets a moment to himself, you’ll find him riding bikes, running, or navigating the great outdoors with a compass in hand.
